The Federal Government has declared its commitment to ensuring that all individuals implicated in the alleged bribery scandal involving popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, will face legal consequences following a thorough investigation. This statement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, marking his one-year anniversary in office.
In response to the allegations, the Minister suspended four senior officers from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and ordered an extensive investigation into bribery and corruption within the agency. Tunji-Ojo revealed that two of the suspended officers are directly linked to the Bobrisky case.
“We will not spare anybody, no matter how highly placed,” he asserted, urging Nigerians to remain patient as the investigation unfolds. He emphasized that “nobody will be protected,” reinforcing the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Tunji-Ojo clarified that the investigation extends beyond the Bobrisky case, stating, “It is not just about Bobrisky. Of the four people we suspended, only two are linked to him.” He mentioned a specific incident involving an officer in Afikpo who improperly facilitated an individual’s release.
The Minister expressed confidence in the integrity of the committee tasked with investigating corruption within the NCoS, assuring the public that they are reputable individuals committed to carrying out a thorough and impartial investigation. “Look at the integrity of the people involved. Let the integrity of the committee give you confidence,” he added.
As the investigation progresses, the Federal Government remains resolute in its determination to root out corruption and ensure justice for all parties involved.
