Libyan authorities have arrested four Nigerian nationals in connection with drug trafficking and public health concerns. The arrests occurred in the cities of Sabha and Bani Walid, according to a report by Migrant Rescue Watch on Monday.
In Sabha, two Nigerian suspects were apprehended during a raid conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Authorities seized 1,200 hallucinogenic pills and other illicit substances during the operation. Both suspects have been transferred to the Sabha Security Directorate for further investigation.
Migrant Rescue Watch stated:
“CID in Sabha carried out a raid on a reported location and arrested two Nigerian drug traffickers. During a search of the premises, police found 1,200 hallucinogenic pills and other illicit drugs.”
In a separate incident, another Nigerian male and female were detained in Bani Walid during routine health screenings after testing positive for infectious diseases. The Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) in Bani Walid transferred the individuals to Tripoli for further processing and their eventual repatriation to Nigeria.
Bani Walid, a known transit hub for migrants attempting to cross into Europe, has been under increased surveillance as Libyan authorities intensify crackdowns on illegal activities and implement public health measures.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by Libyan authorities to curb drug trafficking and address public health risks among migrants in the region.
