The internal crisis within Nigeria’s Labour Party (LP) deepened as the Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties (FNYLPP) publicly rejected Julius Abure and Kennedy Ahanotu, citing allegations of expired tenures and irregularities.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Forum criticized Abure for holding onto the position of national chairman despite the expiration of his term on June 8, 2024. The Forum also called out Ahanotu, the deputy national secretary, who had been presenting himself as the national youth leader.
Comrade Eragbe Anselm Aphimia, the Forum’s spokesperson, issued a stern warning, saying: “Mr. Kennedy Ahanotu…is hereby warned to desist from presenting himself as the National Youth Leader…Similarly, Mr. Julius Abure is warned to stop presenting himself as the National Chairman.”
The Forum pointed to a Labour Party National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on September 4, 2024, during which Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha were appointed to lead a 29-member Caretaker Committee (CTC) tasked with organizing the All-Inclusive and Expansive National Convention in 2025.
Additionally, the Forum expressed support for Dr. Halimat Tejuosho’s candidacy for the role of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
