Human rights activist and lawyer Chief Femi Falana has provided an explanation for why Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), is unable to attend the police invitation scheduled for August 20, 2024, at the Force Headquarters. Falana, who represents the NLC, stated that Ajaero had already committed to another engagement on that date before receiving the police invitation.
In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police and sent through DCP Mohammed Ahmed Sanusi, Falana requested that the police reschedule the meeting to August 29, 2024, when Ajaero will be available. The letter, signed by Samuel Ogala, also sought detailed information on the allegations against Ajaero, which include criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
The letter outlined that Ajaero’s prior engagement was set before the receipt of the police invitation and emphasized the need for transparency regarding the specific allegations. Falana’s communication assured the police of Ajaero’s readiness to cooperate fully once the new date is confirmed and requested detailed information on the charges to facilitate a proper defense.
