Nigerian-South African beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina has declared that she has no plans to return to South Africa after her recent experience in the Miss Universe South Africa pageant. Adetshina, who faced racial attacks during the competition, has decided to stay in Nigeria moving forward.
In a recent interview with Cool FM, Adetshina shared her decision, stating that she feels no desire to return to South Africa. She emphasized her intention to remain in Nigeria to explore new opportunities. “I think it’s safe to say I’m not going back. It’s been amazing. I’m not even looking forward to going back to South Africa. I just want to explore more. I want to stay longer and see what happens next,” she said.
Adetshina’s decision follows a troubling experience during her participation in the Miss Universe South Africa pageant, where she was subjected to racial attacks. Additionally, there were issues related to an inquiry by South Africa’s Home Office into her mother’s alleged criminal activity concerning her registration as a South African citizen, which led to her withdrawal from the contest.
Reflecting on her journey, Adetshina expressed gratitude for the support she received and the platform provided by the Miss Universe Nigeria organization. She recounted her struggles and dreams, revealing that the xenophobic attacks deeply affected her. “I think it’s something I started recently; however, I’ve had this dream since 2017 to become the next Miss Universe. I’m really glad I have been given the platform and the opportunity to at least try and reach that goal,” she told Bold Friday Show.
Adetshina also spoke about the emotional toll of the attacks, noting that they often left her in tears. Despite the challenges, she remains optimistic and focused on her future goals, shifting her perspective to find potential greatness in overcoming adversity.
