As Edo State’s governorship election approaches, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a stark warning to voters against supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement posted on his Facebook page, titled “The Clear Choice for a Prosperous Edo State,” Atiku described voting for the APC as endorsing continued hardship and misery.
Atiku, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, criticized the APC for exacerbating the economic struggles of Nigerians. He pointed to soaring fuel prices and worsening living conditions as evidence of the party’s failure to improve citizens’ lives.
“The APC has failed to deliver on their promises, leading to soaring fuel costs and increased suffering. A vote for the APC is essentially a vote for ongoing misery and despair,” Atiku stated.
He urged Edo voters to reflect on whether the APC has made any positive impact or merely intensified their struggles. He emphasized that the choice to vote for Dr. Asue Ighodalo of the PDP represents a step towards reclaiming a better future for Edo State.
Atiku criticized the APC for its alleged disregard for the well-being of the masses, accusing the party of pursuing power at the expense of governance. “The APC has masked itself as a friend to the people, but behind this facade lies a reality of neglect and self-interest,” he said.
He further denounced the party’s leaders for living in luxury while ordinary Nigerians face dire conditions, accusing the APC of ignoring protests and silencing dissent.
Despite the bleak scenario, Atiku expressed optimism about the PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, highlighting his readiness to serve with genuine commitment and competence.
“Edo State’s future hinges on your vote. Consider whether the APC has improved your life or merely deepened your struggles,” Atiku urged. “A vote for Ighodalo signifies a rejection of the APC’s deceitful tactics and a move towards positive change.”
Atiku concluded his appeal by urging voters to cast their ballots for Ighodalo, asserting that their decision would be pivotal in ushering in a new era for Edo State.
