Controversial Nigerian social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, appeared before a House of Representatives panel on Monday. The committee is investigating bribery allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
Officials from both the EFCC and NCoS attended as the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions began their inquiry into the serious accusations levied by VeryDarkMan.
In a viral video, VeryDarkMan alleged that recently released crossdresser Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to the EFCC to have money laundering charges dropped during his naira-spraying incident in April, which led to a six-month prison sentence. The blogger further claimed that Bobrisky also paid additional millions to secure a favorable placement in prison.
Bobrisky has denied these allegations and has taken legal action against VeryDarkMan. In response to the claims, both the EFCC and NCoS have initiated their own investigations.
Additionally, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the Office of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to conduct an independent investigation into the allegations made by the blogger.
