Nigerian music sensation Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has officially parted ways with Dapper Music, the label that helped him achieve mainstream success in 2023. Rumors had circulated regarding his departure, and recent changes to his social media accounts — including the removal of Dapper Music’s name and unfollowing the label’s head — seem to confirm the separation.

Following his departure, Shallipopi launched his own music label, Plutomania Records, which features Zerry DL and Tega Boi as its leading artists. This move comes shortly after Dapper Music experienced another departure with artist Seyi Vibez.

In a related industry note, Afrobeats artist Michael Adebayo Olayinka, also known as Ruger, recently voiced his frustration with the Nigerian music scene. Taking to his X handle, Ruger expressed disappointment with the rise of untalented artists who achieve fame through extensive promotion, despite lacking musical prowess. He also criticized the overuse of autotune by some artists, especially during live performances.

“The music scene has been hurting me,” Ruger shared, pointing out how promotion can sometimes overshadow talent. He went on to urge artists to consider turning off autotune during their speaking moments on stage.

With Shallipopi’s independent venture and Ruger’s candid commentary, these events highlight the evolving landscape of the Nigerian music industry.
