A large crowd of protesters, supported by various groups from different parts of Kaduna, took to the streets demanding that President Bola Tinubu step down from office. The demonstration began at the Stadium Roundabout and quickly grew as protesters marched along Junction Road towards Ahmadu Bello Road.
March and Chanting
The protest procession started around 10:15 am on Monday, with demonstrators chanting, “Tinubu ze soka’ kaa’sa,” meaning “Tinubu must step down.” They carried banners and flags in Nigerian green-white-green colors, as well as placards with messages such as “#End Hunger in Nigeria.” The crowd assembled around the Stadium Roundabout before setting off on their march.
Police and Security Response
Throughout the protest, approximately six police vans with anti-riot officers were seen patrolling the metropolis, using sirens to manage the swelling crowd. Additional security agents were stationed at strategic points on Ahmadu Bello Road and near the Central Market. Despite these efforts, the number of protesters continued to grow, with more people joining from Constitution Road, Saudana Crescent, Katuru Road, Offa Road, and Abuja Road.
Protesters’ Actions and Reactions
Some protesters were seen waving a flag resembling the Russian flag and chanting in Hausa, “Bama so,” which translates to “We don’t want hunger.” A more extreme faction of the group burned and tore the Nigerian flag. Despite police attempts to de-escalate the situation and urge the protesters to vacate the roads, the demonstrators remained resolute in their demand to head towards the Government House.
As the protest continued, security personnel called for reinforcements to manage the growing tension and prevent further escalation.
