In a significant crackdown on illegal medical practices, the Nigeria Police Force’s Zone 16 has arrested a fake medical doctor, Doubara Esamasuode, who was operating without a license in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The arrest took place at St. Maximilian Medical Centre, located at Winners Junction in the Etegwe area of Yenagoa.
The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Emonena Gunn, released a statement on Wednesday detailing the arrest, which was described as a demonstration of the police force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring public safety. The operation was based on credible intelligence provided by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) of Zone 16, Paul Omata.
During a search of the medical center, police officers recovered various items, including injection syringes, drugs, hospital equipment, photographs of a fake convocation, hospital folders, and 200 copies of ultrasound report images. These items were part of the evidence that confirmed Esamasuode’s illegal activities.
Esamasuode has reportedly confessed to multiple offenses, including impersonation, forgery, operating an illegal medical facility, and practicing as a fake medical doctor. The AIG emphasized the importance of protecting citizens’ lives and property, highlighting that this arrest is part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and ensure public safety within the jurisdiction.
“This arrest sends a clear message that criminal activities, particularly those endangering public health, will not be tolerated,” the statement read. The police have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, and Esamasuode will be charged in court soon.
The police also urged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and accurate information that could help in identifying and apprehending criminal elements within the community.
