The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has initiated an investigation into the woman who was filmed tearing her husband’s international passport at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. The viral video, which circulated widely on social media platforms including X, shows the woman mocking her husband while destroying the passport.

Kemi Nandap, Comptroller General of NIS, stated that the woman has been summoned for questioning and will face legal consequences if found guilty under Section 10(h) of the Immigration Act.

In a statement released by NIS Public Relations Officer K.T. Udo, the service confirmed the commencement of a formal inquiry into the incident. The statement clarified that if the woman’s actions are proven to violate Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), she will face the penalties outlined in the Act.

The NIS reiterated its commitment to enforcing immigration laws and maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s legal documents.
