Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has advised career-driven women to prioritize starting a family early, suggesting that having children at a young age can pave the way for long-term professional success.
In an interview with Nollywood On Radio, the actress shared her unique perspective on balancing career and family life. Drawing from her own experience, Bakare revealed that when she had her first child, marriage wasn’t on her mind — she simply wanted a baby.
“If you’re aspiring to be a superstar or successful in your career as a young woman, I’d recommend starting a family early,” she said. “That way, you’ll have the rest of your years to focus on your career, as family is a very important aspect.”
She clarified her stance, explaining that while getting married young could increase the risk of divorce, her message is about prioritizing family, not necessarily marriage. “I never thought of marriage at the time. When I had my first child, I just wanted a baby,” Bakare added. “So, the advice isn’t about early marriage but about starting a family.”
Additionally, the actress addressed a misunderstanding with her colleague, Eniola Badmus, who believed Bakare’s comments were directed at her. “I saw Eniola recently, and she thought I was calling her childless. But I clarified that I meant starting a family, not necessarily getting married. Just have your kids if that’s what you want,” Bakare explained.
