The Labour Party (LP) has urged the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, LP’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Afenifere leaders over claims of misappropriating funds from the 2023 presidential campaign.
At a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, expressed concern over recent comments by Yesufu. She defended herself against allegations of diverting campaign funds.
The LP has alleged that Yesufu, Ighodalo, and others misused over N12 billion and $15 million intended for the campaign. In response, Yesufu, in a viral YouTube video, accused LP’s Julius Abure of making false statements and challenged him to account for funds raised through the ‘Labour Party N1,000 Challenge.’
Yesufu asserted that the campaign funds were managed transparently and criticized Abure’s claims as misleading. She also emphasized her commitment to due process in fundraising.
Arabambi dismissed Yesufu’s rebuttals as attempts to cover up alleged financial misconduct. He accused Yesufu and her associates of working under Obi’s direction to defraud the party, and implicated Afenifere leaders Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni in retaining over N600 million in private accounts.
Dr. Yunisa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, rejected the allegations as baseless. He stated that Yesufu had provided audited accounts showing no missing funds from the Labour Party’s campaign.
