Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has appointed Professor Medinat Folorunsho Salman as the inaugural Acting Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education in Ilorin, the state capital.

Professor Salman, a distinguished academic in mathematics education, previously served as a lecturer in the Department of Science Education and as the coordinator of the Educational Technology Centre at the University of Ilorin.

She holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, which she obtained in 1985. Professor Salman further advanced her education with a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Ilorin in 1990 and a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education from the same institution in 1998. Notably, she is recognized as the first female professor from the Ilorin Emirate.

According to a statement released by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Professor Salman’s research interests encompass Mathematics Education, gender issues in mathematics and science education, and innovative practices in mathematics education within developing countries.

The appointment of Professor Salman is effective immediately, as confirmed by the statement. It is worth noting that the Kwara State Government established the University of Education, Ilorin, in May of this year, marking a significant step in advancing educational opportunities in the state.
