Kwara State Governor, AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq, has expressed his excitement and readiness for the state to make a significant mark on the Nigerian film industry as it prepares to host the 16th edition of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards in November.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who received the hosting rights on Wednesday, announced that the prestigious event will take place at the newly established Sugar Factory Film Studio in Ilorin, the state capital. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to advance Nigeria’s creative industry with its cutting-edge post-production capabilities.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor highlighted Kwara’s ambition to elevate its status in the film industry. “We are honored to host this year’s Best of Nollywood Awards,” AbdulRazaq said. “Kwara is poised to dominate the film industry. The Sugar Factory Film Studio aims to take film production in Nigeria to new heights.”
The ceremony, which was attended by prominent government officials and Nollywood stars from both within and outside the state, underscored the significance of the event in promoting the film studio and enhancing the state’s visibility in the movie industry.
Governor AbdulRazaq also outlined Kwara State’s broader vision for developing a robust service and hospitality sector, which includes the film factory, a visual arts center, an international conference center, and the Kwara Hotel. These initiatives are part of the state’s strategy to attract quality human traffic and bolster its economic growth.
