The Kogi State Government has ordered the closure of Zango market and banned roadside parking of trucks in the Osara community to address escalating security concerns.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, the government revealed that criminal elements were using the market as a hideout, often in collaboration with truck drivers who park along the roadside.
“These measures aim to prevent a potential security crisis in the area,” Fanwo stated. The move follows intelligence reports linking the market to illicit activities that threaten the safety of the Confluence State University of Science and Technology and the surrounding community.
Grace Period and Enforcement
The government has granted a one-week grace period, beginning December 4, for compliance with these directives. After this window, strict enforcement measures will take effect.
Governor Usman Ododo has instructed the Secretary to the State Government to communicate these orders to relevant parties and law enforcement agencies. Additionally, the Office of the State Security Adviser has been tasked with overseeing security operations in the affected areas.
