The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the introduction of Special Airport Marshals to oversee professionalism and improve service delivery across airports in Nigeria.
The marshals, drawn from diverse groups including the media, representatives of state governments, and non-governmental organizations, will conduct periodic and unannounced visits to airports to monitor staff conduct and assess overall conditions.
A statement by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, disclosed that the initiative is part of Keyamo’s broader effort to enhance passenger experiences and operational efficiency at Nigerian airports.
“These key measures are designed to improve service delivery and environmental standards. The marshals will provide independent oversight, ensuring airport managers are held accountable for maintaining high standards,” the statement read.
The marshals will report directly to Keyamo, who will act on their findings to issue directives to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
In addition to deploying marshals, Keyamo and senior officials from the aviation sector, including members of the Senate and House Committees on Aviation, will conduct unscheduled inspections of airports. These visits aim to evaluate service delivery, address staff concerns, and foster professionalism among workers.
The initiative is expected to improve transparency and accountability, ensuring that airports meet the needs of the traveling public and adhere to global standards of service.
