On Thursday evening, unknown gunmen abducted Mrs. Elizabeth Uruakpa, a 66-year-old Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State. The incident occurred around 7 PM as Uruakpa was returning from an evening church service.
According to reports, Uruakpa was ambushed at the entrance of her home near the new Ilisan market. The attackers forcibly removed her from her vehicle and fled the scene in a red Toyota car. The abduction caused widespread panic in the neighborhood, leading residents and business owners to lock their doors in fear.
A local resident, who spoke anonymously to The Punch, described the incident: “The woman was coming back from the church when the gunmen abducted her. I know her very well; she’s a senior nursing staff with Babcock University Teaching Hospital and a member of the Winners’ Chapel. They dragged her out of her vehicle and drove away in a red Toyota car. It was shocking and unlike anything we’ve seen before in our area.”
Babcock University’s Director of Communication and Marketing, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, confirmed the abduction. He mentioned that the university is actively seeking more information regarding the incident. “I heard about it last night. It is on one of the university’s platforms, but I don’t have a comprehensive report yet. We are working on gathering more details and will provide an update as soon as possible,” Suleiman said.
