Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has paid tribute to the late Herbert Wigwe on what would have been his 58th birthday, calling him a beacon of hope and a visionary leader.
In a heartfelt message posted on X, Sanwo-Olu reflected on Wigwe’s significant impact and enduring legacy. He described Wigwe, founder of Access Bank and Wigwe University, as a patriot with a deep belief in Nigeria’s potential.
Sanwo-Olu’s tribute read: “Today would have marked Herbert’s 58th birthday, a day we might have shared in laughter. The pain of his loss is still profound, but today, I choose to honor the man who was more than a brother and friend to me.”
He praised Wigwe’s wisdom, vision, and unwavering faith in the country, emphasizing that Wigwe’s life was a source of inspiration and hope. “Herbert was not just a leader but a beacon of hope and a visionary who inspired many. We celebrate his remarkable life and the legacy of progress, integrity, and love for Nigeria that he left behind.”
Wigwe tragically passed away in a plane crash in the United States.
