An early morning fire on Monday razed the market at Trademore Estate, a prominent residential area located off Umar Musa Yar’Adua Airport Road in Abuja.
The fire reportedly started around 4 a.m., with the cause yet to be determined. A resident, Joe, suggested an electrical fault might have triggered the blaze.
“We do not yet know the cause of the fire, but we cannot rule out an electrical issue. We are trying to reach both the Federal Fire Service and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service,” he said, describing the situation as tense.
Despite initial delays, the fire service at the nearby Dunamis Church was alerted and arrived by 5 a.m. Joe later confirmed that the fire had been extinguished around 6 a.m., with personnel from the Federal Fire Service’s EFCC and Sauka stations playing a key role in containing the situation.
No casualties have been reported at the time of this update, but the extent of property damage remains unclear. The incident highlights ongoing challenges with fire safety and emergency response in densely populated areas of Abuja.
