The Edo House of Assembly has officially recalled two lawmakers, Donald Okogbe and Adeh Isibor, after a five-month suspension. The decision was announced during a plenary session held in Benin on Wednesday.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the assembly initially suspended Okogbe (PDP-Akoko-Edo II), Isibor (APC-Esan North-East I), and Bright Iyamu (Orhionmwon South) on May 6 due to an alleged conspiracy to impeach the Speaker and other principal officers. However, Iyamu was reinstated in June after expressing remorse for his actions, as noted by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.
During the resumption of plenary, Speaker Agbebaku confirmed the assembly’s decision to lift the suspensions for Okogbe and Isibor. He also congratulated the newly elected governor, Monday Okpebholo, on his victory in the recent governorship election, emphasizing that the governor’s leadership should represent all Edo people, not just the All Progressives Congress (APC). Agbebaku expressed hopes that the new governor would not be misled by sycophants.
The Speaker also took the opportunity to commend the lawmakers for their commitment to their duties, which included the passage of impactful bills and resolutions during the assembly’s recess. Additionally, the assembly approved a 57-sitting day calendar for the second quarter of its ongoing second session.
