Christiana Monday, a widow from Cross River State, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, over the alleged murder of her husband, Raphael Monday, on a cocoa farm. She accuses a man (name withheld) of masterminding the killing and also claims that local police officers are complicit in the case.
In her petition dated November 29, 2024, Christiana described the incident as a source of immense grief for her and her three young children. She recounted that her husband was killed on September 26, 2024, at a government-owned cocoa estate in Block 2D/66 Ikom. After becoming concerned when her husband failed to return home, she was misled by a police officer, who falsely claimed her husband had been arrested. Upon further investigation, she discovered that her husband’s body was being kept at a mortuary, and the police had allowed the suspected perpetrator to transport it there.
Additionally, Christiana accused another individual of attempting to bribe her family with ₦400,000 to bury her husband and keep the case quiet, which she rejected. She now seeks justice for her husband’s death and calls for the police to investigate the suspects involved.
The Cross River State Police have yet to confirm the details of the ongoing investigation. Christiana is urgently appealing to the IGP and the wife of the state governor for support in seeking justice for her husband’s murder.
