As Edo State approaches its governorship election on September 21, 2024, Mr. Nosa Osaikhuiwu has endorsed Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, urging voters to choose him over candidates from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released to Vanguard, Osaikhuiwu criticized the PDP and APC for their prolonged control over the state, citing their failure to address persistent issues such as poverty, power outages, and unemployment. He argued that these parties have not fulfilled their promises and have instead contributed to the state’s economic and infrastructural decline.
Osaikhuiwu’s statement highlighted the severe challenges faced by Edo State, including hyperinflation and insecurity. He criticized the governance of both the PDP and APC over the past 24 years, accusing them of corruption and incompetence. According to him, the state’s poor condition is a result of mismanagement and broken promises by these parties.
He emphasized that Olumide Akpata of the LP represents a new direction and an opportunity to address the state’s challenges. Osaikhuiwu praised Akpata for his potential to revive the state’s past successes, reminiscent of the period under the late Brig. Gen. Samuel Ogbemudia.
Osaikhuiwu warned against the allure of immediate, but superficial, incentives offered by politicians in the run-up to the election. He urged voters to remember the past 24 years of failed leadership and to reject both the PDP and APC.
He concluded by urging the electorate to choose the Labour Party for a fresh start, stressing that voting for the LP represents a chance to improve infrastructure, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life in Edo State. He called on voters to make a decisive change and reject the old political parties to end the cycle of unfulfilled promises and corruption.
