The nationwide protest against bad governance and hunger continued today across the country. Despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressing Nigerians on Sunday morning and urging them to suspend their strike while highlighting his administration’s achievements, protesters persisted in storming the streets in Plateau, Lagos, and other states.
Protests in Plateau and Lagos
Protesters in Lagos have started converging at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota. Meanwhile, a leader of the Bauchi North zone’s #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, Isah Zaki, voiced strong dissatisfaction with President Tinubu’s recent nationwide address. Zaki mentioned that disruptions caused by hoodlums, harming local businesses, might lead to a relaxation of protests in Bauchi North.
Protests in Katsina and Security Response
On Monday morning in Katsina, some protesters waved Russian flags and chanted in Hausa, “Hunger is killing us.” Policemen started trailing them, firing teargas to disperse the crowd. Security operatives also dispersed protesters in the Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The protesters were just assembling when security agents went after them and arrested three individuals. One of the protesters, Yahaya Abdullahi, confirmed that the security agents fired teargas at them.
