Abiola Makinde, a member of the National Assembly representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of flood-affected areas in Ondo City over the weekend. The flood, which submerged parts of the city, prompted Makinde to visit impacted locations alongside the State Commissioner for Information, Wale Akinsotu.
During his tour, Makinde praised the resilience of the community, particularly noting how residents helped save others from being swept away by the floodwaters. Videos circulating on social media captured these acts of bravery.
Makinde visited several flood-prone areas, including the canal along Ife Road, Fagun Estate, and the bridge at Oke-Odunwo, in an effort to determine the root causes of the recurring flooding. He pledged to leverage his position in the National Assembly to ensure that federal agencies like the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provide much-needed support to the affected residents.
The lawmaker also expressed his gratitude to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who, despite being out of the state at the time of the flooding, quickly dispatched his cabinet members to assess the situation and find a permanent solution to the problem.
