A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has issued a public summons for former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to appear in court regarding a new 16-count charge against him. The summons mandates Bello to attend the court on October 24 for his arraignment, alongside two other defendants.
Justice Maryanne Anenih issued the public summons on Thursday in response to an application from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court’s ruling requires the EFCC to publish the summons in a widely circulated newspaper and to paste copies at Bello’s last known address and other conspicuous locations within the court premises.
According to reports, the EFCC has struggled to serve Bello with the charges filed on September 24, which allege criminal breach of trust amounting to ₦110.4 billion. The two other defendants named in the charges are Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu.
Bello’s absence from the proceedings previously delayed the arraignment, which was originally scheduled for Thursday.
