Kola Ologbondiyan, the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asserted that the North Central region will be responsible for selecting the party’s next national chairman. He emphasized that no other region is eligible for this role according to the party’s constitution.
Ologbondiyan made this declaration during a meeting with PDP youths from the North Central region in Abuja over the weekend. He pointed to Section 47(6) of the party’s constitution, affirming that its provisions are clear and must be enforced.
“It is widely recognized among party members and stakeholders across all six geo-political zones, particularly in the North East states—including Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Adamawa, and Borno—that there is overwhelming support for naming a successor from the North Central to replace Senator Ayu. The zone is actively refining its processes to achieve this goal,” he explained.
He urged party members to disregard the actions of certain individuals who misinterpret the party’s constitution to suit their personal agendas.
“The foundation of the PDP lies in its Constitution (2017 as Amended), not in the whims of any individual, regardless of their status,” Ologbondiyan stated. He cautioned that any attempt to undermine the constitution would invite chaos within the party.
“The North Central will produce a successor to Senator Ayu, not any other zone. Those attempting to obstruct the implementation of Section 47(6) of the PDP Constitution are not acting in the best interests of our party,” he concluded, as reported by Leadership.
