Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged traditional rulers in the state to avoid using their positions to victimize opponents or those who did not support their ascension to the throne.
During a ceremony at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, where he presented certificates of recognition and staff of office to two newly appointed first-class traditional rulers, Fubara emphasized the importance of embracing all subjects impartially. He urged the monarchs to act as unifying figures, promoting peace, harmony, and development in their communities.
Fubara encouraged the royal fathers to set aside any personal grievances and focus on inclusivity and forgiveness. He also called on them to collaborate with the State Government to ensure peace and accelerate development in their regions.
The ceremony saw His Majesty King Marcus Oduma Woyike, Nye Nwe-Ali Elele, Okinali/Elele-Alimini of Ikwerre Local Government Area, and His Majesty King Ndamzi Nsirim, Nye Nwe-Eli Rumueme Kingdom of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, receive their official recognition.
Fubara explained that the government’s role was to officially recognize the traditional processes already in place. He stressed that the recognition of these monarchs was a formality to validate what had already been established by their communities and previous administrations.
He urged the new monarchs to work closely with stakeholders and other traditional rulers to foster a conducive environment for good governance and security. He also advised them to use their positions to serve the people selflessly, ensuring fairness and inclusivity.
The Governor concluded by wishing the new rulers a successful reign and reminding them of the government’s support in their efforts to serve their people and contribute to the state’s development.
Earlier, Engr Charles Amadi, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, introduced the monarchs to the Governor. He affirmed that they had successfully completed the traditional selection and installation processes, making them deserving of the official recognition and staff of office.
