The Alia Alliance, a coalition of political stakeholders, government appointees, and supporters of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, has passed a vote of confidence in the governor, reaffirming its support for his administration and re-election bid ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The decision was reached during an emergency meeting held on Saturday in Abuja, where members of the group commended Governor Alia’s leadership and what they described as achievements in infrastructure development, agriculture, security, and the welfare of residents.

In a statement issued by the Alliance’s Publicity Secretary, Benjamin Tyokegh, the group said the vote of confidence followed the resignation of Dr. Jimmy Ajim as Director-General, Plenipotentiary and Liaison Affairs, Abuja.

According to the statement, Ajim’s resignation, conveyed in a letter dated July 30, 2026, and addressed to Governor Alia, was based on personal reasons and does not affect the Alliance’s support for the governor or its commitment to his administration.

The Alliance noted that Ajim expressed appreciation to the Benue State Government for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as “a profound privilege.” It added that his resignation takes effect from August 10, 2026, and that he had pledged to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.

The group wished Ajim well in his future endeavours while stressing that his departure would not weaken its resolve.

Reaffirming its political position, the Alliance said it remains united in its determination to work for Governor Alia’s re-election in 2027.

The statement also noted that Governor Alia had emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate after securing 367,786 votes in the party’s primary election, describing the outcome as a reflection of his acceptance among party members.

The Alliance called on residents of Benue State, regardless of political affiliation, to support the governor’s re-election, stating that continuity in leadership would promote stability and accelerate development in the state.

It also pledged to intensify grassroots mobilisation and advocacy efforts in support of Governor Alia’s campaign.

The group further urged political appointees, associates, and supporters of the administration to remain focused on governance and avoid distractions that could undermine the government’s agenda.
