The Zamfara State Police Command has condemned the killing of SP Halliru Liman, who was shot dead by military personnel. The command has called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident and demanded that those responsible be held accountable.

In a statement issued to the press on Thursday, ASP Yazid Abubakar, the command’s spokesperson, expressed deep dismay over the killing of Liman, who was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Wasagu Division in Kebbi State at the time of his death.

Abubakar explained that Liman was en route to Birnin Kebbi for a meeting when he was stopped by military personnel from Operation Dadarin Daji at the Danmarke area in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara. Despite identifying himself as a police officer, Liman was shot in the head by a military officer identified as Hassan, resulting in his immediate death.

“The killing of SP Liman on August 28, 2024, at approximately 10:30 hours, by military personnel led by Hassan, is a shocking and unacceptable act of aggression,” said Abubakar. “This incident, which occurred despite SP Liman’s clear identification as a police officer, is a severe breach of the rules of engagement and the principles of inter-agency cooperation.”

The statement emphasized the urgent need for the relevant authorities to act swiftly, investigate the circumstances of the killing, and ensure that justice is served. Abubakar urged that such violent confrontations between the police and military must be avoided to maintain public trust and security.

“The police and military must collaborate to uphold peace and security, not engage in violent acts that erode public confidence. We extend our deepest condolences to SP Halliru Liman’s family and colleagues and assure them that we will pursue justice to the fullest extent.”
