Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has committed to intensifying efforts to combat kidnapping, cultism, and other forms of crime in the state. His pledge came during a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel in Asaba, marking the 33rd anniversary of Delta State’s creation.
In his address, Governor Oborevwori underscored the crucial role of security agencies in maintaining peace and security. He stated, “On security across the state, I pledge to continue doing my best to ensure peace and security in the state. Only through sustainable peace can enduring development thrive in the state.”
Oborevwori also highlighted his administration’s focus on development, emphasizing significant investments in infrastructure and social programs. “My administration has continued to advance Delta State by investing heavily in infrastructural development in all sectors of the state’s economy,” he noted.
Over the past 15 months, the governor has concentrated on enhancing healthcare institutions, improving educational environments, and supporting underprivileged communities through social investment programs. “We are investing massively in infrastructural renewal, upgrading our health care institutions, improving the learning climate in our schools, and assisting the poor and vulnerable through our social investment programmes,” he elaborated.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the challenges posed by crime, including kidnapping and cultism, and stressed the importance of collaboration with security agencies to ensure the safety of all residents. “We are collaborating with security agencies in tackling the issues of kidnapping, cultism, and other crimes to ensure that safety and security of all residents in Delta State is guaranteed,” Oborevwori said.
He also referred to his administration’s MORE Agenda, which emphasizes peace and security as foundational elements for development. “Like I promised Deltans in my MORE Agenda, we will continue to enhance peace and security; we are doing our best because when you look at what is happening in other states, you will know that we are trying as a state,” Oborevwori added.
During the service, Pastor Shiyanbade Adekunle, State Mission Overseer of Living Faith Church, delivered a sermon titled “The Power Of Collective Thanksgiving.” He encouraged Deltans to express gratitude for the blessings and progress achieved in the state and in their personal lives.
