Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector is still waiting for the rollout of the Presidential Executive Order designed to cut the cost of essential medicines and overhaul the health sector. Two months after the order was signed, implementation has not yet commenced, causing concerns about delays.

In June, President Bola Tinubu signed the Executive Order with the goal of enhancing Nigeria’s health system. The order was intended to exempt pharmaceutical machinery, equipment, goods, and accessories from tariffs and excise duties. This move was meant to lower production costs and make healthcare products more affordable.
