Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, has asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should not be blamed for Nigeria’s electoral issues. In his view, the APC is not the “curse” affecting the country; rather, he argues that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) bears that label.
Amadi’s remarks were made in response to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by @Ose Anineh, who criticized the APC for its alleged role in election malpractices, including the improper use of the BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System) and collusion with compromised INEC officials. The criticism also included a call to “reject APC.”
Responding to this, Amadi emphasized that the APC is not responsible for regulating elections. Instead, he placed the blame on INEC, which he claims is the true problem. He wrote on X: “APC is not a curse. It isn’t the regulator of elections. @inecnigeria is. It’s INEC that is a curse.”
Amadi also pointed out that neither Atiku Abubakar nor Peter Obi, prominent opposition figures, are actively working to reform the election management structure and culture. He further criticized INEC for its preparedness to oversee the 2027 elections, implying that the same problematic practices could persist if changes are not implemented.
His comments reflect ongoing debates about electoral integrity and the roles various stakeholders play in Nigeria’s democratic processes.
