MUSICAL ICON Ed Sheeran has issued a public apology to Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim after unintentionally interrupting his post-match interview following the 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Amorim, speaking to Sky Sports at Portman Road, was reflecting on the match when Sheeran unexpectedly walked into the frame, stopping to greet pundit Jamie Redknapp. The incident quickly drew criticism on social media, with many commenting on the disruption during the interview.
In response, Sheeran took to Instagram to address the situation, explaining that he did not realize Amorim was being interviewed at the time. He wrote, “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn’t actually realise he was being interviewed at the time, was popping in to say hi and bye to Jamie. [Obviously] feel a bit of a b—— but life goes on. Great game though, congrats on all involved x.”
Sheeran, a passionate Ipswich Town fan and minority stakeholder in the club, was in attendance at the match. Despite the interruption, he remained supportive of the game, as Ipswich came from behind to secure a draw in Amorim’s debut match as Manchester United’s manager, following his appointment as Erik ten Hag’s successor.
Looking ahead, Amorim will face FK Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League at Old Trafford on Thursday, while Ipswich will play against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday.
