The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has accredited 111 domestic and international organizations, deploying 3,554 observers for the Ondo State governorship election on November 16, 2024. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative approach for a successful election.
According to Prof. Yakubu, INEC’s preparations include the production of accreditation tags equipped with QR codes, enhancing security and efficiency. “Accreditation tags have been produced for all agents, including photographs and location details, and QR codes for verification via mobile applications,” Yakubu noted. He further stated that over 100 media outlets, including radio, television, newspapers, and online platforms, have also been accredited, with a record-breaking deployment of about 700 personnel, including 129 female journalists.
In addition, INEC has mobilized thousands of agents representing candidates and political parties across polling and collation centers in the state. The distribution of accreditation tags and vehicle stickers for election duty will commence soon, ensuring that all authorized personnel can be easily identified.
Prof. Kunle Ajayi, INEC’s Supervising National Commissioner for Ondo, Oyo, and Osun states, called on political parties and candidates to promote peaceful conduct. “This election is a collective endeavour. The future of Ondo State and the credibility of our electoral process rest in our hands,” Ajayi remarked, encouraging a unified commitment to democracy.
With heightened observer presence and reinforced accreditation protocols, INEC aims to provide a transparent and credible electoral process, while urging all stakeholders to foster a peaceful environment.
