The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has called for peace and a return to the status quo among its feuding National Working Committee (NWC) members. In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Wabara expressed deep concern over the ongoing internal crisis.
He urged all involved parties to de-escalate tensions for the sake of party unity. “The BoT calls on all sides of the NWC to sheath their swords and revert to the status quo to preserve the unity and stability of our great party,” Wabara stated.
While acknowledging that disagreements are natural, he emphasized that the PDP’s tradition of internal democracy must not be compromised. Wabara assured members that the BoT would engage with the NWC to foster reconciliation and restore normalcy. “We remain committed to promoting peace, unity, and progress within the PDP, and we call on all party faithful and supporters to stay calm as we resolve these issues,” he added.
On the same day, a faction of the PDP loyal to acting National Chairman Umar Damagum announced the suspension of National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN). This was disclosed by the PDP National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, in a statement issued early Friday.
Nnorom explained that the party has established a committee, led by Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, to investigate concerns raised against the suspended officers, in accordance with the party’s Constitution.
In a swift reaction, Ajibade’s faction suspended Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, citing allegations of disloyalty to the party. Ologunagba also issued a statement on Friday, declaring that both Damagum and Anyanwu would face suspension from their positions.
