Citizens in Plateau State have begun casting their votes in the ongoing local government elections, with a heavy security presence observed in Jos, the state capital. Armoured Personnel Carriers from the Police, along with other security vehicles, were stationed at strategic points throughout the city.
In the early hours, residents went about their daily activities before gradually moving to polling stations to participate in the election. Security personnel were on hand to ensure law and order, preventing any potential disruptions.
As of the time of reporting, voting had commenced across various local government areas (LGAs). However, some voters expressed frustration over the delayed arrival of voting materials at certain polling units.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, after casting his vote at his Pushik 1 polling unit in Ampang West, Mangu LGA at around 9:15 a.m., praised the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) for organizing a smooth and peaceful process. He commended the commission for delivering free, fair, and credible elections.
“The exercise has started in earnest,” Governor Mutfwang remarked. “Driving from Jos through Barkin-Ladi to Mangu, I saw enthusiastic voters heading to their polling units. I’m pleased to have cast my vote, and the process is running much faster than the BVAS machines used in general elections. The peaceful atmosphere and maturity displayed by voters mean that security personnel have had little to intervene in.”
