The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 13 suspected internet fraudsters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The arrests were made by the EFCC’s Uyo Zonal Directorate following credible intelligence about the suspects’ involvement in fraudulent online activities.
This was disclosed in a statement by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Dele Oyewale, on October 8, 2024. According to Oyewale, the operation took place on Monday, October 7, in the Nwaniba area of Uyo.
During the raid, several items were recovered, including two Lexus 350 saloon cars, one Toyota Camry, one Toyota Corolla, six laptops, and 20 smartphones. The vehicles were identified by their registration numbers: Lexus 350 saloon car (BGK 698 SU, Abia), another Lexus 350 saloon car (ABC 573 BC), Toyota Camry V6 (UYY 888 HR, Akwa Ibom), and Toyota Corolla (KTM 613 AA, Akwa Ibom).
The EFCC has confirmed that the suspects will face legal charges once investigations are concluded.
