On Tuesday, Iran issued a stern warning to Israel regarding any potential attacks on its infrastructure, particularly targeting its nuclear and oil sites. This statement comes amid rising tensions following Iran’s missile barrage on October 1, which marked the second such assault on Israel in six months.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated, “Any attack against infrastructure in Iran will provoke an even stronger response,” emphasizing the nation’s readiness to retaliate against any aggression. This warning was issued after Israeli officials announced preparations for a response to Iran’s recent missile attacks.
In a separate comment, Araghchi reiterated that Iran does not seek war in the region, aiming to de-escalate tensions despite the ongoing threats. Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden cautioned Israel against targeting Iran’s oil installations, highlighting the potential consequences of such actions, given Iran’s status as one of the world’s top ten crude oil producers.
General Rassul Sanairad of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps further intensified the warning, stating that any strike on Iran’s nuclear or energy sites would cross a “red line.” He added that discussions about changes in Iran’s nuclear policy following Israeli threats were inappropriate.
Iran has consistently denied ambitions to develop nuclear weapons, asserting that its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes. However, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported that Iran accelerated its uranium enrichment to 60% in late 2023, though military-grade enrichment requires around 90%.
Tehran linked its missile attack on Israel to recent incidents, including the deaths of key figures associated with Hezbollah and Hamas, which Iran attributed to Israeli actions. As tensions escalate, the international community remains watchful of potential military confrontations in the region.
