The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has announced its decision not to participate in the upcoming local government elections set for November 2, 2024. This announcement was made during a joint meeting of the party’s state executives and local government chairmen in Umuahia.

The party cited the lack of official communication from the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) as the main reason for its withdrawal. Engr. Sterling Uruakpa, the State Assistant Secretary and acting Publicity Secretary of the APC, emphasized that the party cannot rely on information circulated through social media regarding the elections.

Uruakpa highlighted the necessity for ABSIEC to use proper and official channels to communicate vital updates and details to the party. He stressed the importance of transparency and inclusiveness in the electoral process to uphold credibility among all stakeholders involved.

“The All Progressives Congress is the ruling political party in Nigeria and the biggest party in Africa and will not tolerate any form of contempt or disrespect from ABSIEC,” Uruakpa stated. He further insisted that ABSIEC must adhere to due process, ensure inclusiveness, and provide a level playing field for all political parties to gain the trust and confidence of both the parties and the public.
