BENIN CITY – The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his recent victory in the Edo State governorship election held on September 21, calling it a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

In a statement from Mrs. Chinyere Kalu, IPAC’s National Publicity Secretary, the council emphasized the need for Okpebholo to exhibit magnanimity in victory and extend an olive branch to his opponents. It urged the newly elected governor to prioritize an inclusive government that benefits all residents of Edo State.

IPAC attributed the peaceful conduct of the election to the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the electorate. The council highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation in advancing the state’s development.

“Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria. Together we will deepen it to yield its fruits and dividends to citizens,” IPAC stated. The council acknowledged that the election results reflected the confidence of the Edo electorate in the APC candidate, urging Okpebholo to embrace the responsibilities that come with his victory.

IPAC advised aggrieved political parties and candidates to seek legitimate channels for redress, rather than resorting to violence or destructive behavior. Additionally, it called on INEC to build on the successes of the Edo governorship election and enhance its performance in the upcoming Ondo State gubernatorial poll scheduled for November.

In its statement, IPAC emphasized that credible elections are crucial for democracy, insisting that the people’s votes must count and their mandates respected by all political stakeholders.
